When you go to your doctors clinic for a urinary complaint, often times you will be asked to fill a form known as the IPSS score form. This form helps your doctor approximately quantify the severity of your urinary problems dictating the treatment modality. The form requires patients to estimate the percentage of time during which they have experienced different urinary symptoms in the past month such as pain upon urination, intermittency in flow, number of times the patient has had to wake up at night to urinate etc. Needless to say, patients are not always able to provide an accurate estimate due to either losing track of their symptoms and when they occurred or falling into a recall bias by over exaggerating the severity of the symptoms or under emphasizing them.
iPee is a free app designed for patients and physicians in order to simplify the urinary severity symptoms score into a simple user friendly model. This model enables patients and physicians to objectively quantify the problem in the most accurate way possible, thus ensuring a treatment model that mirrors, in a more precise manner, the severity of the patients symptoms. Furthermore, it illustrates a conclusive follow-up tool in order to assess whether a physicians intervention, be it medical or surgical, was successful in relieving or ameliorating those urinary symptoms.
